Anything worth doing is always better when we add our beloved dogs to the equation. Whether you are hiking around Central Florida's state parks, island hopping on a sunny day or heading out for a bite to eat, the company of a dog makes a day that much better. Thankfully, there are many dog-friendly activities here in Orlando. Below are some of our favorite things to do with our dogs!

Author Trey Dyer Paddleboarding with his dog, Sammy, in Orlando

1) Go for a Puppy Paddle - Grab a board and your pooch and head out for a leisurely paddle on one of the many lakes around Orlando. While some dogs take better to stand up paddleboarding than others, most dogs thoroughly enjoy the ride. Never paddleboarded before? Click here to book a puppy paddle with Get Local

2) Take your pooch shopping at Woof! Orlando - Located in College Park, this family-owned dog heaven has everything you need to pamper your pup. With excellent dog groomers ready to primp your dog to perfection (I take my labordoodle Sammy there every week) and high-end pet supplies like organic dog foods, healthy treats and toys, Woof! is the perfect place for a shopping day with your dog.

3) Dog Parks! (duh) - Central Florida has numerous dog parks that make for great puppy play dates. Our two favorites are Fleet Peeples Park on Lake Baldwin in Winter Park, and the newly opened Park of the Americas in Orlando. Fleet Peeples Park offers dog lovers great walking trails and a beautiful sandy shoreline with access to the lake, the perfect place for your pup to take a swim. Park of the Americas is state of the art and offers a big and small dog area so that dogs of all shapes and sizes can enjoy themselves.

4) Grab Brunch at one of Orlando’s dog friendly restaurants - Start your weekend off right with a mid-morning patio brunch. With a booming restaurant scene and ample sunshine, Park Avenue in Winter Park has several restaurants that allow dogs to join their owners (the Briar Patch and Bosophorous are my favorite dog friendly restaurants). For something a little less formal, Cristo’s Cafe is another great dog spot, and has some of the best diner fare in Orlando.

5) Grab a beer with your pup - With numerous outdoor patio and open-air bars, Orlando is a great place to take Fido out for happy hour. The Lucky Lure on Lake Ivanhoe is my personal go-to when I’m with my dog, Sam. This open-air bar welcomes dogs and their owners with open arms.  Most of time, your dog will not be the only dog in there, as the regulars love to bring their canine friends as well.

Grab the leash and take your dog out for a day on the town in Orlando. With these great options, there is always a way to enjoy Orlando with your furry friends.

Born and raised in Orlando, FL, I grew up with a passion for the water. After working as a sports writer and a marketing and event coordinator at the local sports commission to pay for my new favorite sport, fly fishing, I eventually teamed up with Get Local to show the visitors of Central Florida how great the natural beauty of this state really is. When I’m not running Get Local, you can almost always find me out on the water fly fishing for tarpon, redfish and snook off my standup paddleboard.
