2014 Orlando Bowl Guide: Part 1 - Where to Stay

The results are in and the matchups are set. The brand new Florida Citrus Bowl will host the Russell Athletic Bowl and the inaugural Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. With incredible matchups of the Oklahoma Sooners vs. the Clemson Tigers in the Russell Athletic Bowl and the Missouri Tigers vs. the Minnesota Gophers, this year’s Orlando bowl game experience may be the best one yet.

If you ask me, there is not a better place in the country for a bowl game experience. I mean, where else can you go the beach, Disney and a college football game in the same day? (And don’t say California because with L.A. traffic, there is no way anyone is fitting all that in one day!) Central Florida provides an incredible bowl game experience and this series is dedicated to helping you maximize your experience; use it as your guide to have the best bowl game getaway you have ever had.

Where to stay

With the hundreds of hotels and accommodations available to Orlando visitors, it is hard to identify which is the best fit for you. Luckily, this area has something for everyone.

Attractions Area: If you know the theme parks are going to be where you spend the majority of your trip, staying at one of the Disney or Universal hotels is a good choice for you.

  • At Disney, the Yatch Club Resort has always been one of my favorites since I was a kid (sand-bottom swimming pool is every kids dream right?)

  • At Universal, the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is a great option with easy access (a ferry ride away) to City Walk and the Universal theme parks.

Downtown Orlando: If you are looking for something away from the theme parks that gives you a chance to experience the local culture of Orlando, there are a number of boutique hotels that are perfect for you. Two of our favorites are downtown and both are less than 2 miles from the Citrus Bowl.

  • The Grand Bohemian is a 5-star modern hotel that highlights fine art and provides incredible customer service. These rooms are comfortable and elegant and the in-house dining options, whether you choose room service or the Boheme restaurant (a place the locals love to get a great meal), are world class.

  • The Aloft Orlando Downtown is one of the newest and trendiest hotels in Central Florida. This modern style hotel provides spacious, clean and luxurious rooms. The WXYZ Bar in the hotel embodies the style you would find in an elite hotel in New York or L.A. and serves great cocktails and wines paired snack type food dishes.

Enjoy Orlando

Orlando is the top the destination for bowl games, with more outdoor, entertainment and dining options easily available (watch out for Part 2 and Part 3 of this series) than any other city in the country.
